A revision of the Genus Scincella (Reptilia: Sauria: Scincidae) of asia, with some notes on its evolution Naturalis
Ouboter, P.E..
Of the genus Scincella Mittleman, 1950 (sensu Greer, 1974) 337 specimens from Asia were examined for 74 characters, which were treated in a numerical-taxonomic way. The dendrogram resulting from this analysis was not stringently adhered to. Because of the wide variation in certain numerical scale characters within one taxon or even within one population, these characters (used by many authors as key characters to separate taxa) are not regarded as very important. For sympatric and parapatric species other characters, including relative size of head, body and limbs, are regarded as very important, because these characters are influenced by the way of life (niche separation). For the separation of allopatric species scale-numbers, but many other characters...

A STOCHASTIC DOMINANCE ANALYSIS OF ALTERNATIVE MARKETING STRATEGIES FOR MIXED CROP FARMS IN NORTH FLORIDA AgEcon
Anaman, Kwabena A.; Boggess, William G..
Cumulative probability distributions of income for management scenarios involving four pre-harvest marketing strategies are subjected to stochastic dominance analysis to determine risk-efficient sets of strategies for different groups of farmers in North Florida. Results indicate that farmers should behave differently in their choice of marketing strategies according to their risk attitudes. Highly risk-averse farmers should prefer some forward contracting while low risk-averse and risk loving farmers should prefer cash sales at harvest. Use of the futures markets leads to both higher income and greater risk than forward contracting but lower income and risk than cash sales.

A STUDY ON THE SUSTAINABILITY OF VILLAGE-BASED COOPERATIVES AS AN INSTITUTION OF DEVELOPMENT AgEcon
Hussein, Maliha H..
The existing social and institutional structures at the village level are so occupied with immediate issues of survival that they have been unable to divert much of their energy to long term development goals. The situation is characterized by the existence of "social traps" which lead people to adopt short term solutions and ignore the long term consequences of their actions. At such low income levels future expected returns are also likely to be discounted at very high rates. It is a reflection of the state of affairs that very little new land was brought under cultivation since independence. Individually, the farmers lacked the resources which could enable them to develop new land. The opening of the Karakorum highway has created new economic...

A systematic revision of the North-Eastern Atlantic shallow-water Haplosclerida (Porifera, Demospongiae) Part II: Chalinidae Naturalis
Weerdt, Walentina H. de.
In the present paper the north-eastern Atlantic Chalinidae (Porifera, Demospongiae) are systematically revised and redescribed; where necessary lectotype designations are made. Three genera are recognized, viz. Haliclona, Acervochalina and Dendroxea. The latter genus is not represented in the study area. Seventy-two nominal species have been described in Haliclona in the wide sense here employed (including species assigned to other genera here considered junior synonyms of Haliclona: Reniera, Gellius, Adocia, Toxadocia, Orina). Among these 72 nominal species 12 valid species are recognized. One species new to science is described, viz. Haliclona xena spec, nov.; 4 nominal species of Acervochalina are reduced to 2 valid ones.

A TARGET MOTAD ANALYSIS OF A CROP AND LIVESTOCK FARM IN JEFFERSON COUNTY, FLORIDA AgEcon
Zimet, David J.; Spreen, Thomas H..
An analysis of a typical crop and livestock farm in North Florida is presented. The analysis incorporates the potential competition and complementarity among crop and beef cattle enterprises. A Target MOTAD model is developed to account for risk in a decision framework. The results indicate that when income risk is ignored, peanuts, watermelon, and stocker cattle are the only enterprises included in the optimal solution. When income risk is heavily weighted, the optimal solution includes peanuts, watermelon, stocker cattle, cow-calf, and irrigated soybeans. The results suggest that the persistence of cow-calf production may be explained as a stabilizer of income.

Acarological and arachnological notes Naturalis
Hammen, L. van der.
A study is made of four subjects in the fields of chelicerate morphology, postembryonic development and relationships, viz., the functional morphology of the legs in Anystis (a fastrunning Actinotrichid mite), the musculature of the gnathosoma of Glyptholaspis confusa (Foà) (an Anactinotrichid mite), the evolution of the chelicerate life-cycle in the case of an irregular number of instars, and the relationships of the chelicerate classes and subclasses.

Seismic, Seabeam, magnetic and gravimetrie surveys in the southern part of the N-Fiji basin were conducted during the SEAPSO LEG III Cruise. The active spreading axis was recognized between 17°30'S and 21°S. It consists of a continuous N-S Ridge cross-cut by transverse directions oriented N25 and N45. North of 17°30'S, the spreading System is more complex due to the existence of a possible triple junction located around 15° S. The eastern part of the N-Fiji basin, west of Viti Levu is mostly characterized by alternating highs and deeps (<4,000 m). This area must be regarded no more as a spreading center, but as complex boundary suffering transverse tectonics.
